Zen Moment

The rescued branch and a ceramic mug.

Last Saturday. A rather windy day and not warm yet, but, spring is in the air. The school opposite the studio is empty, no problem to find parking space.  No loud noises and nobody is rushing.

Nor am I.
I go to the studio to clean the windows. We have a lot of them and they are big. Going to the studio to do a chore, on a week-end day, puts me in a whole different mind frame.  There is no pressure, no dilemmas, no decisions on color or size to be made.

And that is maybe why, after first dismissing this little branch on the pavement, I walk back to pick it up.

It was just too beautiful to lay there …

When plants or their shoots in the studio need repotting, I go through our huge collection of plastic containers.

Here again, a different mind frame, looking for a small ceramic pot, container, my only option is one of our coffee mugs.

I pick one, fill it with water, put the branch in and pull it up to eye level to inspect the result.

I have a “Zen Moment”.

A very still moment.

A moment of honesty.

Of warmth too.

The branch and ceramic connect.

I just have to make a picture to save this moment and I can’t help but play with color too…, hence the two pictures.

This little spring haiku came to me as I am writing this down.

Branch broken on floor

Spring is promised in its buds

Taken home to see
